I unknowingly went to Guatemala during rain season. Fortunately, the rain usually happened in the evenings, so I made sure to be up early to enjoy as much sunshine as I could!
One evening I was on my way to a pre-trek meeting in a light drizzle when it suddenly turned into a downpour. My waterproof jacket didn't do much to keep me dry. In no time, the streets became rivers and cars were splashing me at every chance! I quickly stuffed my not so waterproof bag inside my jacket and hurried to the meeting, looking like a pregnant wet cat.
The meeting went quickly, so the rain was still coming down as I made my way back to my hostel. My shoes were soaked and breaking at the seams, my clothes were all wet and dirty, and my hair a gorgeous mess of knotted, wet, frizzy hair. It was worst than if I had jumped in the shower fully clothed!
My hostel attendant saw me come in and to my dismay said "oh, but we have umbrellas!"
