8 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Beautiful Costa Rica

Playa Grande Beach Tamarindo Costa Rica
Have you been dreaming of beaches, sunshine and beautiful clear waters? Why not try Costa Rica for your next trip! We’ve just spent one week in the beautiful Guanacaste province on the Pacific coast, mostly in Tamarindo, and we absolutely loved it! With tons of activities to do and things to experience, here’s why you should go too!

Beautiful temperatures: The Guanacaste province is on the Pacific coast and is the dry area of Costa Rica. Go in the dry season and you’re guaranteed sunshine and warm temperatures. However, the raining season is also quite nice as the temperature remains high and the rain offers a relief to the heat.

Sunsets to die for: Ahhh the sunsets! Honestly, Tamarindo has some of the best views of the sunset. With it being right on the pacific coast with most days being clear, there is nothing to obstruct your view. Try seeing it from different spots and nearby beaches, or from a terrace even, it’s totally worth it.

Friendly locals: It’s always nice to feel welcomed and at home when traveling and that’s why the friendly locals of Tamarindo were so amazing. From souvenir shops to restaurant, they were always willing to lend a hand when asked with a smile and always helpful at practicing our Spanish! The tour guides I dealt with are some of the best I’ve had the chance to meet. They love their country, their life, their jobs and the happiness is just contagious from them, you are sure to have a great time!

Don't get caught off guard! Check out these Must have items in your carryon!

Safety: As a single woman walking the streets late after a night out, I felt completely at ease within Tamarindo and its surroundings. Common sense is evidently necessary, as with any other destination (including at home). Never put yourself in a position of threat or danger, especially at night. The drug dealers are quite evident, but very friendly and they will walk away with no worry if you say no right away.

Great surf: This was a first for me and an amazing experience. If you’re being hesitant, the instructors will tell you that “if you don’t get up, you don’t pay”. But that’s because they are very good at what they do and they will make sure that your experience is a great one! We all got up on the first try in my group! And for the more advanced surfers out there, the waves get quite nice for you as well. It didn’t take long to notice that the locals get up super early to catch some awesome waves before a day of work!

The jungles:
Although we personally spent most of our time by the beach, Costa Rica also boasts luscious jungles! Whether you rent a car to visit on your own or take a hiking tour to see some sloths, you can spend days exploring the beautiful greenery of this country. Zip line, White water rafting, horseback riding and hiking are just some of the activities easily accessible to anyone!

Great infrastructure: Costa Rica is a well developed country with a good infrastructure.  The vast majority of the country has potable drinking water (but always check with your hotel or hosts first!) and every village has a school, a medical clinic and a church. An awesome thing within Tamarindo is that almost every restaurant has Wi-Fi! Ask your server when you order and they will be happy to provide it. By the end of the week, we could walk along the main strip and get Wi-Fi almost everywhere!

The roads are also well developed. Although you’ll need a four wheel drive to access some areas due to the inclines in the terrain, Costa Rica can easily be travelled with a rental, or by shuttle or bus if you’re not comfortable driving.

Beaches: Last but not least there are the wonderful beaches! They seem to go for miles and the sand varies from soft as flour to 100% sea shells making it interesting and fascinating to walk from one beach to another. The current and the waves also vary widely from one beach to another, so be careful going in if you’re not a strong swimmer. Otherwise, enjoy the ride!

With only a week of vacation, there is not nearly enough time to enjoy everything that Costa Rica has to offer, but we surely made the most of it! As full time workers with limited vacation time, we have to use the time we have wisely and nothing beats a hot sunny week to take care of those winter blues!

We look forward to exploring this beautiful country even more in the future, so we’d love to hear your thoughts on it if you’ve been. Let us know in the comments or see our contact page!

You've definitely convinced me to visit Costa Rica. I don't surf, but I love the look of the jungles. And I also am a solo female traveler, so it is good for me to know that you felt safe.

There are a lot of surfers as well as first timers going there for the waves, but I actually met a few who never got on a board and still loved the area! I hope you get to visit some day!

Costa Rica looks amazing. I don't think I've been there before. What was your experience with the language? Is this a country where Spanish is required, or can you get by with Spanglish?

Spanish was not required where we went, almost everyone spoke english! But we stayed in very touristy places (Liberia and Tamarindo). If you venture into lesser known areas you'll likely be needing some Spanish.

Funny that before I opened this post, I saw a deal from secretflying.com. Toronto to Costa Rica for $250 CAD. This is even more motivation to visit. Looks incredibly beautiful.
