Fish and seafood A lot of restaurants have fish sitting on a tray of ice at the entrance. We came across a ton before we finally decided to try some in Ao Nang. Walking around in a very touristic place trying to find authentic Thai food, we found this cozy little restaurant. They recommended us the fish with black peppered sauce and not a word was spoken until we had licked every bone clean! We all agreed that it was the best fish any of us had ever tasted. Pad Thai You’re in Thailand, of course you need to get yourself some pad thai! It’s authentic, it’s flavourful, and it’s delicious! You’ll never go wrong with this meal. Sticky rice with Mango You will see this desert everywhere during your visit; make sure to go try some. With a sweet coconut sauce over the rice and fresh mangos, it is absolutely delectable! Khao Soi This delicious meal original to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand is made from egg noodles, coconut milk and khao soi curry. We couldn't find it in the southern regions, but it's definitely a must try if you're in the northern area. A delicious blend of creaminess and spiciness makes this curry absolute bliss in for your tastebuds! Street food The street food in Thailand is cheap and delicious. With most food carts having small portions, you can try a variety of things as you explore through the markets. From squid to sausages, to fruit smoothies (try the watermelon smoothie!) and even roasted bugs, there is a great deal of wonderful flavours! Thai breakfast We were excited to try a Thai breakfast when we saw it on the menu and surprised when it turned out to be a soup! What was even more surprising is how delicious and filling it was. Made with clear broth and noodles, there was seriously nothing better to settle the stomach first thing in the morning after those late nights at the bar! There is so much variety, and the cost of food is so low, that there is no reason not to try as many different things you can find! We took a cooking class in Chiang Mai and found that it was extremely helpful in introducing us to the different flavours of the country. If you do stop in that area in northern Thailand, try Zabb-E-Lee Thai Cooking School, they are very knowledgeable, funny and attentive! It was a great experience, you even leave with your very own recipe book to try at home! You might even surprise yourself with a new favourite!
