20 Ways to Leave your Comfort Zone - Thailand Edition

Palm Trees in the sky on the beach in Thailand

Thailand has gained significant popularity amongst all types of travelers over the years. It's known for its breathtaking beauty, savory cuisine and amazingly frugal costs. But it also offers many more elements to tourists, including unbelievable opportunities to leave your comfort zone!

Now I know it can be tempting to remain within your safe, comfortable routine and not venture out. After all, stepping out of your comfort zone can result in significantly increased stress and anxiety! That is why human beings as a race often tend to avoid those activities which we can't accomplish with ease and familiarity. However, we would counter that statement with the fact that by staying at status quo, you risk hiding your true potential! What if, by stepping out of your comfort zone, you grow as an individual and discover a passion that you didn't realize was present within you? Even if there is no such astonishing discovery, you will surely get to know yourself better along with your interests and limits. It will also likely make you feel more alive and adventurous!

The
substantial benefits that can be experienced from stepping outside your comfort zone in order to expand your exposure through participation in new exciting adventures are often what motivates people to try these new activities. Certainly there is no one activity that is well suited (or even safe) for everyone, but we thought we would share some of the activities we engaged in during our recent trip to Thailand to inspire possibilities of new ventures!

Bangkok Street

Bangkok
Many travelers will choose to begin their vacation in this city as it is a good way to begin immersing yourself into this new culture. You will be surrounded with people who speak languages you don't understand, but we found many individuals here did speak a decent English, which significantly simplified communication. Here, you can eat street food (try various new fares such as roasted squid, barbecued banana or roasted grasshopper), use public transportation (which for us resulted in great adventures), and even survive many tuk tuk rides (they're the most aggressive drivers we've witnessed so far).

During our trip, we also
chose to dress up and took amazing pictures, even though we were quite hesitant to participate at first. Additionally, it's a great city to start improving your bargaining skills, since many countries don't offer this opportunity when shopping or going to restaurants, so it can make for a great new experience!

Here you may chose to participate in cooking classes
during which you can explore a local market to purchase the ingredients and learn how to make various meals, including well know pad thai. We also chose to spend a day alongside elephants at a sanctuary, which turned out to be an absolutely breathtaking experience, located in a stunning location!

Ao Nang
This beautiful city is filled with tourists, which results with an incredible variety of activities available for all tastes! A popular option is evening cruises. The one we took let us jump off the roof of the boat, swim in waters
where we saw an enormous jellyfish, and swim at night in the dark to witness the bio luminescent plankton (with the large waves, it did feel eerily similar to a scary movie where one of us could've gone missing, but it was absolutely worth it!). We also went zip lining (which isn't easy when you have a fear of heights but our friend participated none the less so to not miss out on the breathtaking views), and we also went rock climbing for the first time. We were astonished and surprised ourselves with how high we were able to climb!!!

From having a cigarette lit by a fireshow presenter, to snorkeling in rough seas until we swam with sea turtles, this location was amazing!!! I do have to admit that I did get lucky as I was the only one in the group that didn't get bit by the fish while snorkeling!! The only explanation we could find for the biting was that this spot where we were snorkeling must often have tourists feeding the fish, so they must've thought my friends' legs were tasty looking! But don't worry it was only little nibbles!

Of course, we wouldn't recommend all these various activities for everyone, as we all have differing limitations, abilities and health conditions. However, if any of these are safe for you (as deemed by you, and a physician if health conditions are involved) and you're traveling soon, why not give them a try and see how it changes you as a person?

Thanks for checking these 20 ways to leave your comfort zone in Thailand. Now go have some fun!!

Nice post. Getting out of my comfort zone is something I try to do every day. I am married to a Thai and lived in Thailand for two years. Thailand is a great place to test yourself with things you don't ordinarily do with all the outdoor activities on offer in the country. Wish you well on your travels. Take care!
